Buyer: Accor has opened it’s first Mondrian hotel in the Asia Pacific as part of its ongoing growth strategy to reach 15 properties globally by 2022, including a soon-to-be-announced debut in Australia.

The Mondrian Seoul Itaewon in South Korea is the fifth in the brand portfolio and has been developed in partnership with developers Yojin Construction & Engineering. The 296-room property includes an outdoor pool and bar with a viewing deck overlooking the city, a rooftop bar, entertainment precinct and 867-square metre ballroom.

According to Accor, Australia is among the next countries to be home to a Mondrian hotel, alongside Vietnam, Singapore, Germany, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Mondrian Seoul Itaewon features 296 rooms and a variety of recreation and entertainment facilities. Mondrian is one of five entertainment and accommodation brands which joined the Accor stable in 2018 under a 50% acquisition of sbe Entertainment Group, managed by founder Sam Nazarian.

Accor Asia Pacific Chairman and CEO, Michael issenberg, said he and Accor were excited to grow the Mondrian brand and bring it to the Asia Pacific region.

“The Mondrian brand captivates the energy of Seoul with its creativity, revolutionary design and exciting bars and restaurants,” he said. “The opening of Mondrian Seoul Itaewon will provide a complete lifestyle hotel experience in the heart of Seoul’s most vibrant district.”

THPT Comment: Good to see Accor have big plans for the Mondrian brand after their acquisition of their 50% of sbe.
