As the developer and an owner of the flagship hotel in the downtown west fashion district of Toronto, Zinc marks a strong presence in the hospitality business. The 124 room, full service hotel with 140 seat restaurant, 70 seat lobby area, unique rooftop bar and meeting facilities is poised to become a focal point of the Toronto hotel scene.

Zinc are partnered by Alterra Group, with investors and partners ProWinko, from the Netherlands, and Canadian Finer Space/B-Right Corporation.

Zinc are a general property development company, with interests in commercial, office, retail, residential – and we think this is their first foray into hotels.

The Ace Hotel exemplifies the philosophy of Zinc, of being an innovator in the local development community. As with their other projects, the company strives to push the boundaries of great design and ultimately bring excitement to the city landscape. The hotel, designed by international award-winning Shim Sutcliffe.

“Our partnership with The Ace Hotel, as announced by the hotel company, further demonstrates our uncanny ability to identify best in class operators,” said Mr. Zuckerman. “Our foresight and professionalism has enabled us to execute the successful introduction of the hotel to the Toronto market and its first location in Canada.”

Ace Hotels have 11 hotels including Toronto and Kyoto, Japan opening 2020. Theothers are mainly in gateway cities in the USA, with one in London. The company was started in 1999, with their first hotel in Seattle.

THPT Comment: Ace have come of age, from when three mates, Alex Calderwood, Wade Weigel and Doug Herrick started the business, as one of the original “trendy, hippie-style, unconventional” hotel companies….of which there are more than you shake a stick at, today. Check them out on Wikipedia. Sadly Alex died young (47 years old) in 2013.
