Civisa’s Owner Buys 3 Buildings in Central Valencia to Convert into a Hotel

Date: April 2018

Location: Calle del Mar, Close to Plaza de los Patos, Valencia, Spain

Name: TBA

No. of Keys: TBC

Seller: According to Valencia Plaza newspaper, Ballester first acquired two buildings – numbers 30 and 32, both belonging to the same owner – the bakery Virgen de la Cabeza.

Subsequently he secured number 32, where there is also a historical establishment of the city: the Groceries of Enrique Dasí , opened since 1931.

The family of the merchant, who resided on the upper floors of the store, was the owner of the entire small estate. Building should start in August 2018.

The store is very popular in the area for its charcuterie.

Buyer: Civisa, headed up by Andrés Ballester, the founder of Civisa, who has requested a construction licence from the Town Hall for his hotel project.

The measures that they will have to take into account include respecting the façade of the central building, which has a commercial space on the ground floor, and the respecting the height of the property following the renovation, given that it may not exceed the limit for the area.

This new hotel in the centre of Valencia is not the only real estate project in which Ballester has been immersed in recent times. Recently, the businessman participated in another operation through which Inditex is going to open its first Zara megastore in Valencia.

Subsequently the same thing would happen with the number 32, where there is also a historical establishment of the city: the Groceries of Enrique Dasí , opened since 1931.

The family of the merchant, who resided on the upper floors of the store, was the owner of the entire small estate. As they explain themselves to this newspaper, they have agreed with the businessman to leave the property starting next August.

Such is the period left to the romantics of ancient commerce to continue enjoying their products and their nostalgic decoration, with old white wood shelves that cover the wall to the ceiling.

The store is very popular in the place for its charcuterie. Sell sandwiches made at the moment with ingredients to taste, a product that generates tails in the square at lunch and dinner.

THPT Comment: It sounds like Ballester hasn’t as yet chosen the operator, not do we know the standard of the hotel to be built. Assuming five-star, it will be in good company with hotels like Las Arenas Balneario, NH, Hospes and Westin, but I am sure a welcome addition to the city.
