Seller: The site was expected to become the Dutch Embassy’s new headquarters. Dominvs director Jay Ahluwalia said the group was looking to revise the existing plans for a 150,000 sq ft hotel, which were drawn up by Ballymore in 2012 as part of its 15-acre regeneration scheme Embassy Gardens.

Buyer: The Dominvs Group has acquired the site with plans to turn it into a hotel.

The cleared site adjacent to the new US Embassy in London’s Nine Elms was purchased from the Dutch Government and already has outline planning permission for hotel-led redevelopment.

The area, which is emerging as the city’s new diplomatic quarter, has recently seen the fruit of five years of regeneration with retail, culture and hospitality openings such as Robin Gill’s Darby’s restaurant nearby.

When complete, the area will benefit from the Northern Line extension creating two new London Underground stations, new schools, two town centres and affordable homes.

Preet Ahluwalia, director of Dominvs Group, said: “In such a key location within the Nine Elms regeneration area and moreover in terms of London’s development story, the site presented us with the perfect opportunity to add to our growing development pipeline and to our fledgling corporate-focused London hotel portfolio.”

The group’s portfolio includes the Holiday Inn Express and Crowne Plaza hotels at Aberdeen Airport, and the Dixon in London’s Tower Bridge.

It also has more than 3,000 bedrooms under development across the UK including: a Premier Inn in Milton Keynes; a 200-bedroom property on Glasgow’s Osborne Street; Courtyard by Marriott-branded hotels in York and Oxford; and a 198-bedroom Hampton by Hilton in Bath due 2022.

The group’s London pipeline includes: an 850-bedroom hotel on Talgarth Road in Hammersmith; a 200-bedroom hotel in Hounslow; the UK’s first Motto by Hilton in London’s Marylebone, due to open next year; a 142-bedroom hotel in St Paul’s under Hilton’s Curio Collection; as well as a hotel on Holborn Viaduct. The group also announced plans earlier this year to expand and rebrand the former Arbor City hotel as a Hampton by Hilton.

THPT Comment: Dominvs are rapidly becoming a major name in hospitality, from it’s roots in more commercial building development. This is quite a catch and lot’s more in the London pipeline.
