Historic Rome Neighbourhood to Welcome Boutique Hotel

Main Photo: The Chapter Roma, to open as a member of the Design Hotels collection.

Date: February 2019

Location: Regola, Rome, Italy

Name: Chapter Roma – opening March 2019

No. of Keys: 42

Seller: The hotel is part of a building that dates back to 1880.

Buyer: Marco Cilia, formerly of Hotel Americano in New York City – the first within his new Chapter Italia portfolio.

He ran Blakes Hotel in London, which can claim to be one of the first boutique hotels, opened in the 1970s.

“We are introducing a new vibe for hospitality in Regola with the opening of Chapter Roma,” said Cilia. “I was born here, and it is important that we put our guests in the Italian state of mind; protecting Rome’s design heritage while celebrating the future with genuine and original design, service and food-and-beverage offerings.

With Chapter Roma we’re telling the first part of our story. We want to create a place where guests truly feel like they’re living like a local.”

South Africa-based designer Tristan Du Plessis of Studio A is updating the property with an “industrial-chic, sultry style” that connects the building to the city’s history. The guestrooms are centered on a few statement pieces in otherwise minimalistic spaces with custom-made vanity-cum-storage solutions.

Opening onto Via Santa Maria dei Calderari, a bar features Roman arches wrapped in raw steel throughout and will be a hybrid space for work and socialising. Chapter Roma also will have an all-organic daytime market and will open a signature restaurant later in the year.

THPT Comment: Rome is hot at the moment with Rocco Forte, Dolce, Iberostar and others opening in 2019.
