Location: Centre of Harrogate, Yorkshire, UK
Name: Crescent Gardens
No. of Keys: TBA
The Property: Harrogate Borough Council’s former offices in Crescent Gardens are being advertised on the open market once again (26 June 2019).
The site is being re-marketed following the failure of the previous buyer to deliver on a contractual commitment to submit a valid planning application.
The council consolidated all of its central Harrogate offices into a new, modern and energy-efficient HQ at Knapping Mount.
Sanderson Weatherall, the appointed agent, expects there to be strong interest in the sale and a significant number of developers in the region have already enquired about the new tender process.
However there is no hotel planning consent as yet, so this would be on the new owner to achieve that.
Councillor Graham Swift, cabinet member for economic development, said:
While it was disappointing that our previous contracted sale failed to complete, Crescent Gardens remains a strategic site at the heart of Harrogate town centre.
It is encouraging that there is already lots of interest in the building.
We remain optimistic that developers will explore the opportunity to create a building that can add value to the town’s landmark style.
Not only will the redevelopment of Crescent Gardens bring important community benefits, it will provide the council with an significant capital receipt.
Originally constructed in the late 18th Century as the Victoria Baths, the building was used as Council offices from the 1930’s until late 2017 and is an attractive, three storey Georgian style property extending to approx. 37,900 sq ft (GIA) on a site of approx. 1 acre.
The property is located within the Town Centre conservation area and adjacent to the Harrogate Convention Centre and close to Valley Gardens.

THPT Comment: This fabulous looking building would be great as a hotel, especially as it’s adjacent to the Harrogate Convention Centre. There was a plan in 2017 to make it into a residential development with apartments to be sold at £3.5m to £10m, but didn’t happen.

This is a new feature on the THPT site…. Hotel owners can be naturally reticent in publicising their hotel is for sale…for confidentiality reasons, for staff and current client reasons, so the hotels featured in this section will either be “generic” or “name specific”
