Buyer: The little borgo of Antognolla, in the heart of Umbria, will be transformed to welcome 71 rooms and 79 private residences. Six Senses Hotel & Spa Antognolla is scheduled for 2023.

The redevelopment is being headed by VIY Management (VIYM), a London-based investment firm focused on luxury hospitality and mixed-use real estate projects and Alessio Carabba Tettamanti, an investor in Antognolla and the owner of the luxury Umbrian estate Tenuta di Murlo. The masterplan is by Woods Bagot, ranked sixth in the BD World Architecture 100. Interiors are by Tokyo-based Design Studio SPIN, known for transforming the interiors of renowned hotels and restaurants into the most luxurious venues.

Through a 1,335-acre (540-hectare) property, the future complex will offer a peaceful atmosphere, along a river and forest in the green heat of south-Italy. The old medieval village, located on a hill, will include a wellness and cultural offer with prestigious Spa, 18-hole golf course, equestrian centre, cookery school and organic farm. Private residences will range from apartments and two-bedroom villas to six-bedroom farmhouses. Hotel rooms will take place in a contemporary building, with a wide range of luxurious fittings.

According to Six Senses values, the hotel is a combination between local experience, wellness, and high quality of services. With the choice of Antognolla, the hotel group is also promoting a new kind of slow tourism, with a true sustainable consideration aligned with the brand.

For Development Director, Jim Ryan, the Six Senses hotel in Antognolla is a new step toward a responsible hospitality industry:

We are delighted that our vision of the project is in line with that of Six Senses, and we have a truly unique opportunity to carefully preserve and develop this area of historical and cultural significance.

The luxury hotel group is betting on the charm of Italy to continue its development in Europe. In 2023, this property will be the second Six Senses brand in the country. Before Antognolla, the group will open a new unit in Rome in 2021, with 95 rooms in the historic Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini.

THPT Comment: Six Senses, acquired by IHG in 2019, has prospered well with this 2nd hotel in Italy.
