Date: September 2018

Location: Falmouth, Cornwall

Name: St Michaels Hotel – four star

No. of Keys: Now 84 plus 53 self-catering apartments in 2019

Financed by: CBRE Global Investors, BH Group (James Houlston) and Acorn Property Group

Owner: Nigel Carpenter. St Michaels Hotel in Falmouth has reopened its doors following a refurbishment and expansion, which marks the completion of phase one of a £50m redevelopment plan across the site.

The four-star hotel in Cornwall has extended with 13 new bedrooms, a new destination spa and two new restaurants, after owner Nigel Carpenter secured the £50m to transform the hotel.

The funding was the first and largest of its kind in Cornwall, with £20m of the pot being ploughed into development at the hotel and the other £30m being invested into a new residential site.

The Liner will offer 53 self-catering apartments and is expected to break ground in autumn this year.

St Michaels Hotel also boasts two new restaurants – Brasserie on the Bay and the Garden Kitchen – plus a new private dining room, the Wine Vaults.

The new destination spa is home to the world’s first Cornish sea salt steam room and the largest hydrotherapy pool in the south west with 21 massage stations. It also comprises 10 treatment rooms, a manicure and pedicure Champagne bar, with nailcare by OPI.

The health club features a gym with studios to host fitness and rowing classes, while there are also four tennis courts and an indoor swimming pool

THPT Comment: Quite an investment for, on paper, a small Cornwall hotel, but an investment that will no doubt do the partners well.
