Date: April 2018
Location: South West side of the Blue Lagoon, Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland
Name: The Moss Hotel and Lava Cove Spa
No. of Keys: 62, each with outdoor terrace areas and private naturally-heated swimming pools.
It’s a four-part complex, with the Lagoon, a private swimming hole that’s an extension of the Blue Lagoon; a subterranean spa with a lava rock-heated steam room, fire pit, and sauna; a 62-suite luxury hotel with a cozy lounge and library; and restaurant, where guests can sample the local cuisine over a seven-course chef’s tasting menu.
The complex will be sustainable, and powered by clean geothermal energy.
The Moss Hotel and Lava Cove spa are due to open this autumn. Rooms are priced around 109,000 ISK (approx. $982) or 300,000 ISK (approx. $2,704) for a suite with private access to the Lava Lagoon.
THPT Comment: Must be the ultimate “get back to nature” hotel we have seen for a while. Bill Gates, is said to have sidestepped the overcrowding issue when, in 2015, he reserved the entire lagoon for a private midnight swim.
