Third Hotel for Rogue Hotels in Scottish Highlands

Main Photo: Dunalastair Hotel Suites

Date: October 2019

Location: Kinloch Rannoch, Pitlochry, Scottish Highlands, UK

Name: Dunalastair Suites – five star

No. of Keys: 76

Seller: The property dates back to the Jacobite uprising in 1745, Bonnie Prince Charlie et al! At the time, Dùn Alastair (meaning “Fort of Alexander”) was home to Alexander Robertson, Chieftain of the infamous Clan Donnachaidh. A staunch Jacobite, he built himself a grand property known as The Hermitage, which, unfortunately, was destroyed during the 1745 uprising. Another house built on the same site was burnt down accidentally in 1854.

By the turn of this century, the Dunalastair Hotel had already undergone several changes of ownership, and in 2012, was closed altogether. After a multi-million pound refurbishment, the hotel re-opened in May 2017.

Buyer: The hotel is now owned by Rogue Hotels, headed up by Nassar Khalil and his business partner, who also own Henley Homes and two other hotels open/in the pipeline in Glasgow and Cambridge

Nassar has long experience in working in hospitality, starting as a student at Claridge’s in London, Hilton, Nikko and Sanderson Hotels.

When asked why they have chosen the name Rogue City Hotels for the group, Nassar explained that the group is led by forward thinkers, by grafters with great entrepreneurial spirit who think outside the box, nurture innovation and invest in people. Mavericks of hospitality, with their heart in the right place!

THPT Comment: Nassar has big ambitions – to open another 15 hotels in the UK in the next ten years…we wish him luck.
