Name: Thon Hotel Svolvaer – opening July 2021

No. of Keys: 211

Buyer: In July 2021, Thon Hotel Svolvær opens its doors. The hotel with 211 guest rooms is located at the far end of the quay in Svolvær, and is seven storeys high.

For several years they have been planning this exclusive and special experience hotel in the ocean gap in Lofoten. The hotel restaurant seats 300 guests. The views are spectacular, with floor-to-ceiling windows. A large glass box for gutting and processing fish is placed on the outside of the wall, so that the restaurant’s guests can view the catch that comes in. And guests can have their own fish cooked in the restaurant. The hotel will also have its own herb and vegetable garden on the roof, says Executive Vice President of Thon Hotels, Morten Thorvaldsen.

A specially built main hall with high quality of the technical equipment is ready for conferences and banquets. The hall can be adapted for different purposes, with window surfaces at a height of seven metres. The WC in Skreifiske is also held here with a specially adapted tiled floor for the event.

Outdoor seating has been arranged, and a large floating jetty with a sauna at the water’s edge is planned. Thon Hotel Svolvær is right next to the award winning Thon Hotel Lofotenwhich opened in 2009. The two hotels will have a large degree of co-operation, offering a total of more than 400 guest rooms. Together, the hotels have a capacity for 1,500 conference guests.

Design manager in the Olav Thon Group, Sissel Berdal Haga Thon, and interior architect MNIL Trond Ramsøskar are behind the interior of the new hotel.

The interior is exciting, colourful and gorgeous. From yellow and pink tones in the rooms to yellow and green furniture and details in the large reception area, which is dominated by a white marble floor. The lighting is exciting, but everything is kept in a warm tone with curtains and fabrics, says Sissel Berdal Haga Thon.

Hamperokken Arkitekter AS has designed the hotel and Consto Nord has been the client.

THPT Comment: Thon Hotels, Norway’s largest hotel group, is a bit of a unsung hero… one doesn’t hear much about them, but in 2020, they were named as number one of the hotel industry’s most sustainable brand in the Sustainable Brand Index. They have over 70 hotels in Norway and has in recent years had a strong focus on waste and food waste, energy, ethical requirements for suppliers and being a part of the everyday working life.
