Tune Hotel in Scottish Capital sold to Edinburgh Collection and renamed The Haymarket Hub
Date: June 2017
Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK – Haymarket, City Centre
Name: (now) Haymarket Hub, (was) The Tune, Edinburgh
No. of keys: 189
Seller: TP Edinburgh, a subsidiary of Singapore-based TP Real Estate Holdings. The rebadging of the Edinburgh hotel will leave only two properties in the UK – in Liverpool and Newcastle – operating under the budget Tune brand, which was founded by Tony Fernandes, the owner of Queen’s Park Rangers FC. In January it was announced that five former Tune hotels were to be relaunched by joint venture company Raag Hotels (Nick Jivraj) as Point A Hotels.
Buyer: Palm Holdings who under the Edinburgh Collection name, already owns the luxury Howard hotel, Channings hotel, the Old Waverley and Holyrood aparthotel, in Edinburgh. They also have several hotels in Canada & the USA, an office building and a wine bar in London (where many THPT meetings have taken place!).
Price: Undisclosed
THPT Comment: Interesting move for the Kapoor brothers – Ricky & Sheetal, into the budget sector, but bringing some style to this type of hotel. We believe this to be the first hotel in Scotland to provide Handy smart phones to every guest. Will this be the first of many Hub hotels?
