Location: Fabulous Views over Lake Windermere at the heart of the UK’s Lake District
Name: Miller Howe
No. of Keys: 15 – 12 rooms in the hotel and 3 in a cottage on the lands
The Property: The hotel was built in the middle of the First World War by wealthy industrialist and ship builder Thomas Fredric Harrison.
Raised in Windermere, Thomas was seeking a Lakeland Summer retreat and selected Miller Brow – a place described by Victorian journalist and novelist Harrier Martineau as ‘a view unsurpassed for beauty in the whole Lake District’….which it still is today.
In the 1980’s Miller Howe was one of the most fashionable destinations in the North of England, amde famous by gourmet cook John Tovey, write of many cook-books with recioes from Miller Howe’s star-rated restaurant. Former international newspaper editor Charles Garside took over from Tovey in the mid 90’s and continued to uphold the hotel’s reputation for unsurpassed luxury and exquisite dining.
The story continues with the sympathetic restoration after many years of neglect. The new owners Mr and Mrs Jordan (2018) have endeavour to bring this magnificent property and gardens to their former glory, reintroducing original features , restoring facades and landscaping the beautiful gardens resulting in a breathtaking combination of a classic country hotel with a contemporary twist.
Located less than a mile from the village of Windermere, Miller Howe sits within lovingly maintained private gardens enjoying excellent views over Lake Windermere. The Lake District National park is one of the UK’s premier tourist destinations. It covers over 850 square miles and boasts England’s only true Mountain range and several lakes, tarns, meres and waters that give the area its name. Whilst it is the UK’s most densely populated National Park, there are no major conurbations and with inbound tourists numbering an average of 15.5 million per year, it really has proved itself to be a tourist hot spot.
The site area extends to around 6 acres (this includes the 3 plots including the woodland)
The Restaurant is arranged over three areas with stunning views over lake Windermere, up to 90 covers can be accommodated but the restaurant is currently arranged for 42 covers in a sumptuous dining environment.

Each fortnight we mail the opportunities posted that week, but check-out the tab “Hotels Available” and call us for details of “Under the Table” – deals not posted on the site at all
