Vivion Secure Two Prime London Hotels – Sanderson and St Martins Lane from Qatari Al Thani

Seller: The family office of Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim Al Thani, the former Qatari prime minister, known as HBJ, who mooted the sale of these two and the Hyatt Regency Etoile in Paris in August 2019. HBJ’s Capital Hill Hotels acquired the two hotels for £192m in 2011.

Buyer: The hotel and office investor, Vivion that has more than 50 UK hotels – just shy of 9,000 keys including many under IHG’s Holiday Inn brand, including the Holiday Inn Heathrow, Regents Park, a Hilton portfolio acquired from Vincent Tchenguiz in 2019.

Amir Dayan is a major investor in Vivion, with Sascha Hettrich in place as CEO. Simon Teasdale, with a rich hotel background is MD of the Hospitality portfolio.

Vivion are reported to have sold a London hotel for £90m in December 2019, but we do not know which one.

This acquisition takes their portfolio of London hotels to 16 in number.

Price per Key: £720,339

THPT Comment: A healthy price for HBJ. The hotels were considered to be iconic due to their original design by Ian Schrager, who moved on to create the Edition brand for Marriott.
