The Opportunity:

Donnington Grove is a beautiful, former 18th Century House, set over three storeys with projecting bays that offer uninterrupted views over the River Lambourn. The hotel offers distinctive and stylish accommodation comprising 40 en suite bedrooms contained within the main manor house. There are also a selection of private out buildings, an in-house restaurant and bar, conference and meeting space and an 18 hole championship golf course.

250 acres of grounds

Donnington Grove dates back to 1763 when it was owned by James Petit Andrews who employed well known architect, John Chute, to design and build the original manor house. The property was then owned by William Brummell who extended the total demise of the estate to circa 850 acres. Since then parcels of land have been sold off and retained offering an estate of approximately 250 acres today. Following the ownership of William Brummell, the estate was then passed to the Hon. Reginald
Fellows, cousin to Winston Churchill where it’s remained in his ownership until 1991. The property was then purchased by Shi-Tenoji International from Japan who
constructed the 18 hole golf course along with the Japanese temple and gardens.

The hotel has been held under the current ownership since 2005.

The hotel is close to Highclere Castle, Newbury Racecourse, Vodaphone HQ and Donnington Castle – and with it’s proximity to London, is ideal for both corporate and leisure business.

All the majesty one would expect from a 18th century manor house

The hotel is approached at ground floor level with the reception desk situated on the left hand side upon arrival through the main hotel entrance. Guests are then
welcomed by a triple height hallway which boasts beautiful period features and a wrap around staircase which grants access to a selection of bedrooms on the first and second floors levels of the main hotel.

Access to the Avon Room, one of four meeting rooms, is granted off the main hallway and provides function space for up 16 delegates. Together with the Marquee, the hotel can cater for indoor functions for upto 120 pax. Continuing through the hotel, guests can relax in the Chinese Room or enter the northern hallway which provides access to two further function rooms; The Cloudy Room and the largest room, The Kennett. The northern hallway provides further access to the accommodation situated in the more recent extensions of the hotel which have been built around an internal courtyard.

Large bedrooms in the main house…could do with a sympathetic refurb

The accommodation at the hotel comprises 40 en suite bedrooms (two suites and four triples) which are well presented and maintained. Due to the age of the hotel and the more recent additions the bedrooms vary in sizes but overall are extremely well proportioned. Many of the bedrooms in the main house boast high ceilings and beautiful cornices.

20 of the bedrooms are in the Main House…6 doubles in the Summer House, 10 doubles in Lakeview and the last 4 doubles in the Pavilion Lodge.
