The ornate style of the hotel

Once owned by the ill-fated Von Essen Hotels, who went bust…the hotel was acquired by James Caan, under his Hamilton Bradshaw banner for £3m in 2012, then acquired back by Andrew Davies, non other than the ex-chairman of Von Essen….. who ran it more as a private residence, and now back in the hands of the receiver once again!

Tall stone pillars with ornate pedimented iron gates open onto the long tree lined drive which leads through landscape gardens to the appealing Georgian Mansion House dating from 1769. The west wing contains the earliest part of the house and the delightful symmetry of the façade displays three storeys and incorporates pavilions to left and right with low pitched pyramid roofs. Centrally the fine entrance has Tuscan columns supporting metope-frieze and the garlanded Hippisley-Coxe coat of arms in relief above. The rear (southern) garden elevation, also symmetrical but simpler in design has a wide terrace running the width of the house and overlooking the gardens.

The Library

The first and second floors provide 19 well appointed and individually designed luxury bedroom suites including one with its own roof terrace. The lower ground floor has a central hall with access to the gardens and grounds to both east and west and provides valuable space with games room, garden room, billiard room, studies, stores and the original kitchen which is engagingly Edwardian in arrangement.
