IHG Opens Second UK Kimpton Property

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened its second Kimpton property in the UK and its first in Scotland with the launch of the Kimpton Charlotte Square.
Last year, IHG and Covivio entered an agreement to acquire and rebrand 12 hotels and one pipeline property operating under the Principal and De Vere brands. The Principal Charlotte square is the second of these properties to enter the Kimpton brand after the Kimpton Fitzroy London in Russell Square.
Kimpton Charlotte Square is located in Edinburgh’s Georgian New Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It offers views of Edinburgh Castle, along with the BABA Bar, a recently refurbished gym and a spa.
IHG plans to open additional Kimpton hotels in Glasgow and Manchester, along with an InterContinental Hotels & Resorts opening in Edinburgh this year. The group currently operates 345 hotels under eight brands in the UK.
Karan Khanna, UK and Ireland MD at IHG, said: “We are very excited to build our presence in the luxury market in Scotland as we introduce the Kimpton brand. Edinburgh has a real demand for a lifestyle luxury brand and I’m confident that Kimpton’s relaxed approach to luxury will suit the market well.”
Kimpton offers quirky touches such as in-room yoga mats and the ‘Forgot It, We’ve Got it’ service offering essentials from curling and straightening irons to tweezers. Guests can take part in free fitness and wellness classes at the refurbished gym, or enjoy a relaxing treatment at The Spa.
Guests can also book No. 33, a homely hotel within a hotel that can be booked for up to 24 guests. Perfect for groups, special events, private weddings or just to hang out with your closest friends, No. 33 offers an intimate, homelike space.
Founded in 1981 in San Francisco by Bill Kimpton, Kimpton revives historical buildings with a signature style and spirit that preserves the former Roxburghe hotel’s original character.
General manager Johan Scheepers said: “Each Kimpton hotel is an escape from the ordinary, and Kimpton Charlotte Square hotel will offer a vibrant Scottish service full of charm and personality, in one of the world’s most historic cities. We also have a small surprise from local artist Edinburgh Sketcher in every room.”
Kimpton opened its Fitzroy London in October and plans to open in Glasgow and Manchester.
