Location: Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Name: The Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge
No. Keys: 262
Seller: The site is the former Fountainbridge Brewery
Buyer: Marriott has opened it’s second property in the Scottish capital under its Moxy Hotels brand, located in the city’s new urban quarter.
Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge has 262 rooms, with contemporary interiors paying homage to the site’s former Fountainbridge Brewery. The lobby features oversized beer tanks, while beer lines are located throughout the remaining public spaces.
The hotel’s rooftop bar and terrace, which boasts views of Edinburgh Castle, will serve Scottish and international craft beers, tapas and cocktails once restrictions lift.
The property incorporates the brand’s “playful touches” into its design. Guests will be greeted with a complimentary cocktail at the ground-floor bar upon arrival, and the hotel offers in-room “hook-ups” where rooms will be transformed into themed experiences for celebrations such as birthdays and anniversaries.
Further facilities include a built-in cinema which will screen films for locals and guests, two high-tech meeting rooms, a communal ‘chillout zone’ with a fireplace, and a 24-hour fitness centre.
The hotel is currently open to key workers and business travellers due to the nationwide lockdown, but will welcome all guests when restrictions are lifted. It joins the capital’s Moxy Edinburgh Airport which opened in 2019.
General Manager Simon Garrow commented on the opening: “It’s really exciting to bring something new to one of the trendiest up and coming areas of the city. There is nothing quite like it in the vicinity and we’re looking forward to guests and locals experiencing the origins of the site, with the quirky brewery theme running throughout the hotel.”
Donovan Sumner, Regional Director of Operations UK and Italy for Hotel Co. 51, the operating company for Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge, added: “We’re proud to be opening our newest boutique hotel in the heart of Scotland’s capital just two years since opening Moxy Edinburgh Airport. Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge will stand out from the crowd as a place where guests can enjoy the latest high-tech features blended with fun and lively social spaces.
“The original brewery shut back in 2004 and building this hotel on such an iconic site is a real talking point. We look forward to working with Simon Garrow and seeing the hotel thrive using the experience and knowledge he brings.”
