Owner: A German based trading company, whose heritage is in trucks, cars, oilfield supplies & safety equipment, heavy machinery, tyres, electronics distribution, and property & hotel development. They have successfully represented major manufacturers and managed a number of businesses in North Africa and Europe. We think the family acquired the hotel many years back – 2005 or so.

A plan to transform Norfolk Plaza Hotel in Paddington into a new 87-bedroom, four-star hotel has been given planning consent.

Dexter Moren Associates secured permission to convert the Grade-II listed building comprising three townhouses in Norfolk Square into a modern hotel with a ‘flexible multi-functional lounge concept.

DMA was brought in as architect and interior designer by the owners to reconfigure a previously approved scheme, increasing the number of bedrooms from 80 to 87.

The interior layout will be completely reworked to create ‘airy, modern rooms required by high-value business travellers. The multi-functional lobby concept will be a flexible self-service/retail environment inspired by co-working lounges.

Paul Wells, partner at DMA says: “Our design respects the structure of the original three townhouses, retaining elements such as an original staircase and designing the front of house areas so the former three townhouses can still be read. At the client’s request, we opened up the ground-floor layout to create a connected lobby and library, maximising the space and offering a strong, welcoming first impression.”

The start on site is currently scheduled for Q3 2020.

THPT Comment: Further evidence that this area of London, Norfolk Square, Sussex Gardens and other adjoining roads in Paddington, are destined to become the next big area for classy four star hotels.
