Seller: Scandic….The sale relates to the company’s purchase of Restel. With the sale of Scandic Lahti, Scandic has met the conditions of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.
Buyer: GreenStar Hotel Oy, as is suggested in the name, a small hotel company that is proud of being an environmentally friendly, high quality and comfortable Finnish concept hotel chain. The company is headed up by the founder, Kristian Ikonen.
They say “Our hotels consume less environment than traditional hotels. We strive to save energy and water consumption, favour local food and produce some of our electricity with solar panels ourselves. We have also been the first hotel in Finland to have the Ecolabel Swan label.
Their current hotels are located in central locations in Joensuu and Jyväskylä.
Scandic has signed an agreement to divest the hotel operations of Scandic Lahti to GreenStar Hotel Oy. The buyer will take over the operations of the hotel, in August 2019.
The reason for the sale is that the decision by the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority to approve Scandic’s acquisition of Restel was subject to the divestment of one hotel in Lahti, one in Pori and one in Kuopio.
In 2018, Scandic announced that it had divested Cumulus Pori and Cumulus Kuopio Station.

THPT Comment: Scandic is the largest hotel company in the Nordic countries with more than 280 hotels, in operation and under development, in more than 130 destinations.
Slight upset at CEO level, with 8 year-veteran Frank Fiskers leaving in July 2017, being replaced by Even Frydenberg, who sadly didn’t last the course and has now been followed by Jens Mathiesen in January 2019…we wish him well.
