The Alan, a design-led lifestyle hotel, has opened it’s doors on Manchester’s Princess Street. The former Arora Manchester Hotel was purchased in 2013 by Aspen Hotels Limited and was rebranded as the Princess St. Hotel.
The Grade-II listed building is six storeys high and comprises 137 rooms, with sizes ranging from The Standard to The Master, and the eponymous Alan Suite being the largest available option.
All rooms come complete with Emperor beds and 50-inch Samsung Smart TVs with Google Chromecast and bluetooth speakers as standard.
The Alan also purports to be one of only four UK hotels to offer Google Nest smart concierge in all its rooms.
An in-house restaurant led by chef Iain Thomas serves an all-day menu of seasonally changing sharing plates, which champion local British suppliers – including The Butcher’s Quarter, an artisanal butcher located in the city’s Northern Quarter
Elsewhere at The Alan, you can find a standalone bar, while later this year a pop up events space called Situ will open on the hotel’s lower ground floor.
Red Deer were in charge of the hotel’s design and helped to modernise the space, while still retaining many of the building’s original features.
Sustainability also informed the build, with Red Deer taking care to reuse as much of the original materials as possible.
An example of this is the ground floor terrazzo collage of fragmented and discarded marble pieces, which was designed in collaboration with Int. Marble.
Ciarán O’Brien, Lead Designer at Red Deer, commented: “We are the first designers to operate in an era where we have a whole new generation of materials to play with made from recycled content.
Sustainability should no longer be a skin-deep greenwashing, but integral to the principles of the project. At The Alan we haven’t been perfect, but we have taken many steps forward in that direction to the sensitive reuse of materials.”
The Alan is open now in Manchester. Rooms available from £99 per night.
Price: Undisclosed
THPT Comment: A welcome addition to the Manchester hotel scene….Klarent was just formed by Amaris’ acqusition by Henerdson Park…so we’re not sure if this was planned by Amaris under another brand?
