Seller: The Nine Group acquired the site from administrators in 2017. Originally sold to a group of 50 buy-to-let investors, the hotel project was abandoned when Conqueror Holdings Limited fell into administration as a result of a failed joint venture between Zeeshaan Shah of property investment company One Capital and Cherif Investment Properties. Grant Thornton was appointed as the administrator of Conqueror Holdings.

Buyer: Radisson Hotel Group has signed a deal with Watford, England-based development firm Nine Hotel Group to open the Radisson Red London Greenwich in the U.K., marking the brand’s debut in the capital and joining other Red hotels in Glasgow and Liverpool.

Nine Group is the owner and operator of some 15 branded hotels (they had nine hotels once!) in the UK, including the Mercure St Albans Noke hotel, the Crowne Plaza Basingstoke and the Novotel London Heathrow Airport. It also has joint ownership of the Dragon hotel in Swansea and the Trafford hotel in Manchester, which is being refurbished with Ashley Hotels.

The hotel is at the centre of a £5bn regeneration of the North Greenwich peninsular, which is set to include 10,000 homes, an art gallery, orchard, shopping district, restaurants, cruise ship terminal and university campus. The 453-bedroom InterContinental London – the O2 hotel opened on the peninsular in 2016.

The 70-room hotel is slated to open next year with a a bistro, bar and gym and will be within walking distance of the city’s O2 Arena.

“Being so close to the multi-purpose O2 Arena is hugely exciting, as I believe it’s the number-one indoor music arena in the world and hosts the best global talent,” said Vivek Chadha, owner of Nine Hotel Group. “Our hotel will be a representation of the culture and talent the arena attracts.”

The new signing is part of a £8 billion project to redevelop Greenwich Peninsula and transform it into a tourist destination with a range of residential, retail and office space.

Earlier this year, Radisson announced new Red hotels for Norway and Poland in 2021 and 2023, respectively. The company is positioning the four-year-old brand for downtown areas and university towns. Radisson Red currently has six hotels open worldwide
